Most everyone knows what an image file is nowadays. Images are files that contain graphical information, usually of a photograph, drawing, or another kind of visual media. Common image file formats are JPG, PNG, and TIFF, for example. GIF files can also be static images.
PDF files are like snapshots of document files. They usually have text, links, and sometimes images, but they are viewed universally on all systems. In other words, you can draft a PDF file on a Windows PC and it will look the same on an iPhone, a MacBook, or even a television.
This may make PDF files seem similar to images. However, PDF files are classified as documents, not images. This means you can’t upload PDF files to image-based systems. You can’t upload a PDF to Instagram, for example, because Instagram only accepts image files.
Having a JPG of a PDF allows you to do more with that document. As an example, let’s say you have a print advertisement for your restaurant in PDF. If you wanted to share that advertisement on social media, you wouldn’t be able to, because most social media sites — Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. — do not accept PDF uploads.
If you convert that PDF to a JPG, however, you can upload it directly to those social networks!
This is just one example of why converting PDF files to image files can be helpful. It can also be helpful for reducing file size, as some PDFs can take up more drive space than image files. It also can make altering documents possible in your favorite image software, such as Lightroom or Gimp. There are a whole wealth of reasons why converting your files might be a good idea!
To convert a PDF to JPG for free, you’ll need to upload a PDF using our tool above. To start, hit the “UPLOAD FILES” button. Navigate to the PDF file(s) you wish to convert, and upload them. Alternatively, you can just drag and drop your files onto the area that says “Drop Your Files Here”. You can convert up to 20 documents in each session.
Now that you’ve uploaded your files, check the queue, which appears underneath the “UPLOAD FILES” button. Here, you’ll find all the PDFs you uploaded. Our tool converts each page of a PDF to one JPG. In other words, if your PDF has three pages, you’ll get three JPG files. You can download a ZIP file containing all the JPGs for one PDF by hitting the “DOWNLOAD” button under each upload. However, you can also download all of your converted PDFs at once in ZIP format by hitting the “DOWNLOAD ALL” button.
Do you need to convert more than 20 files? That’s OK! After you’ve downloaded all your converted files, hit the “CLEAR QUEUE” button and repeat the process. You can do this as many times as you need.
Don’t forget, however, that you must download your converted files within one hour. After an hour passes, we will delete your converted files from our server. If that happens, you would need to upload the PDFs and convert them again.
Our conversion tool does not affect your original files. When you upload a PDF, we make a copy of that file and then convert it to JPG. Your original files are always safe and untouched on your computer, phone, or tablet!
Additionally, we do not keep any of your private data. An hour after you upload your files, we delete both the PDF and JPG copies from our server. We will never save any files uploaded with our conversion tool, so you don’t need to worry.
